Callahan dismisses Mulkey

 

LINCOLN - Nebraska backup receiver Grant Mulkey was dismissed from the football team Wednesday and won't play his senior season with the Huskers.

NU coach Bill Callahan made the announcement in a release. The statement said only that the dismissal was for "violation of team policies," and Mulkey could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.

Coach mum on reports he was drugged

Ohio University head football coach Frank Solich had an opportunity Tuesday to either confirm or deny statements attributed to his extended family, claiming that his well-publicized arrest for drunken driving last November was actually the result of his being drugged.

Solich, however, declined to comment, even though the OU athletic department arranged for him to meet with an Athens NEWS reporter.

Ben Eisenhart shines in Husker spring game

LINCOLN -- A 2003 graduate of Culbertson High School, Ben Eisenhart earned praise as the leading tackler in Saturday's University of Nebraska spring football game.

Eisenhart, who is the Cornhuskers' second team strong safety, led the white team with nine tackles, of which four were unassisted stops.
